The DPR age group swim team, DC Wave, held an intrasquad swim meet on Saturday, November 6, and Sunday, November 7. A dozen Water Wizards served as volunteer timers for the meet.

This service was a good way for our members to become familiar with how swim meets are run and to lend a hand to another DPR program which assists us in similar circumstances with our swim meets.

Shifts for timers were as follows:
Saturday:

9:00 AM to Noon
1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Sunday:
9:00 AM to Noon

The meet was held at Wilson Aquatic Center located at 4551 Fort Drive NW, Washington, DC 20016.

Please contact Coach Lu (swimcoachlu@gmail.com) if you have questions.

Thank you—see you in the water!

On Sunday, February 23, eight DC Water Wizards participated in a USMS officials certification training clinic offered by Potomac Valley Swimming (PVS), the local swimming committee (LSC) with jurisdiction over swimming competition in our area. The PVS area includes the District of Columbia, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland, and the counties of Fairfax and Arlington and the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church in Virginia. While small in area, PVS, with approximately 12,000 swimmers, is one of the largest in total number of swimmers in all of USA Swimming.

David Colbert, Marvin Blount, Maurice Butler, Roberta Hammond, Mary Kaniewwski, Christine Nord, and Luis Salazar participated in the training for “Stroke and Turn” certification. Audrey Hipkins participated in the “Timer System Operator” training. The Water Wizards passed the required online tests prior to attending the clinic.

The swimmers’ next step is to complete no fewer than five on-deck apprentice sessions, the last of which is to be satisfactorily observed by a designated PVS evaluator. After filing required paperwork to complete the process, these Water Wizards will receive their US Masters Swimming certification credentials.
